As It Happens

As It Happens: Friday Edition

Episode transcript

Part One

Stampede Fine
Don't spare the horses. So far at this year's Calgary Stampede, three horses have died — but 12-time chuckwagon-racing world champion Kelly "The King" Sutherland remains a staunch defender of his controversial sport.

Glen Assoun Case
He served 17 years for murder; then a court order prevented him from talking about what the government called a miscarriage of justice — but tonight, Glen Assoun is free to speak.

Police Dog
An off-duty police officer explains how his pet, a Great Dane named Lewis, helped save the day and send two escaped convicts back to jail — essentially just by being remarkably huge.

Part Two

Sitka Spruce Trees
Sprucing things up doesn't mean improving them. We love Sitka spruces here in Canada — but a rural councillor in Ireland is doing a real hatchet job on the program that's planting thousands of them in his country.

Roxodus
After the abrupt cancellation of the multi-day Roxodus festival in Ontario, disgruntled ticket holders hit rock bottom — before getting their own bottoms in gear to organize an event called "Roxobust."
