B.J. Snowden: Meet the American musician who can't stop singing about Canada
She's just as obsessed with Canada as any Stompin' Tom or Stan Rogers, but B.J. Snowden loves us from afar.
The American singer has written songs about every Canadian province, sometimes twice or three times over.
Snowden tells As It Happens guest host Laura Lynch it all started with a trip to Nova Scotia.
"The people up there were so friendly," she says. "They were just so welcoming."
Now she's working on an entire album of Canadiana called Viva Canada.
The song that sums up how B.J. Snowden feels about her neighbour to the North is called 'In Canada.' Check it out:
B.J. Snowden has been a guest on U.S. late-night talk shows and she's performed at festivals such as Pop Montreal and SappyFest in Sackville, N.B.
One caller to As It Happens suggested Snowden be made an ambassador for Canadian tourism. Snowden says she would gladly accept.
"The nice thing about it is, if you want to be around a whole lot of people, you can go to the big cities like Toronto or Vancouver, but if you want to go out of the realm of a whole lot of people you can also go to the woods."
Here is Snowden's tribute to another great Canadian province, which could be a contender for a new provincial anthem.
In our interview, B.J. Snowden sings excerpts from some new songs she's written about Canada, including one about Montreal, and another about B.C.
