Will the real Sam Roberts please stand up?

A British video game magazine editor soaked briefly in the celebrity limelight today after being mistaken for Canadian rock star Sam Roberts.

Samuel Roberts of sleepy Bath, England got a taste of the Montreal rocker's lifestyle when he received an email from a music promoter inviting him to meet in New York City or California.

"Soulful and loose. I'll be in NYC in March and Cali in May. Big moves. Let's work," read the email intended for the frontman of the Sam Roberts Band. The message was followed by an emoticon of flames.

"None of those words mean anything to me," said Samuel Roberts, who edits the video game magazine, PC Gamer.
Samuel quickly took to Twitter to publicize his brush with fame in a series of posts. "He wants to meet in Cali in May. Let's do this. I'll bring my bagpipes, let's do the circuit," he tweeted.

The Sam Roberts Band got wind of the mistake and started retweeting Samuel's messages.
Samuel said he's never been mistaken for Sam Roberts before and doesn't know how it could have happened, since he normally goes by Samuel, not Sam.

"I'm not very musical, I don't have a beard, I don't play guitar."

Still, Samuel had his share of fun with the mixup and wrote back to the music promoter to correct the mistake.

"Nice to hear from you. Sadly, I'm not the Sam Roberts you're looking for -- I edit a magazine about videogames and am roughly 30% less funky than the real Sam Roberts," Samuel wrote.

"Maybe I should try to claim some of his Spotify royalties cheques or something," Samuel quips.
