Hungarian camerawoman who tripped refugees should face charges: politician

Camerawoman who was captured in video tripping and kicking refugees has been fired from her job at N1TV. Now, opposition parties want her to be criminally charged.

It's already been condemned as shameful and shocking. But now, some want Hungarian camerawoman Petra Laszlo to face charges for tripping and kicking refugees. 

Laszlo was caught on camera while filming refugees fleeing from Hungarian border police. One man was carrying a young child in his arms when he was tripped. 

She was working for the nationalist media outlet N1TV -- which promptly fired her. 

  

Viktor Szigetvári is leader of Hungary's opposition Együtt Party. He tells As It Happens co-host Carol Off, "I think she should be charged with multiple counts of violence against members of a minority."

"According to the Hungarian penal code, she might be sent to jail for three to five years."

Szigetvári calls Laszlo's actions a "big shame for our country," and stresses that many people are in solidarity with the people entering the country.

Szigetvári says Laszlo has "disappeared" and made no public comments since the incident.

UPDATE: Petra Laszlo has written a letter to a Hungarian newspaper 'apologising' for her actions.
