Meet the water park owner who's chained himself to the top of a water slide
In an attempt to save his business, a New Hampshire man has chained himself to the top of his 30-foot water slide, where he has been for three days.
With his business Liquid Planet in foreclosure, Kevin Dumont desperately needs new investors and felt the stunt was his only option. The park opened around the time of the 2008 financial crisis. Dumont blames a poor economy and two consecutive summers of rain for the drop in business.
Speaking to As It Happens host Carol Off from the top of the structure, Dumont explains: "I said, I got to find a way to reach out to the most amount of people in the shortest amount of time. So I said, I'm going to the highest point and chain myself in."
Dumont has set up a tent on the slide's platform, and his friends have been delivering meals and keeping him company.
"I'm a pretty simple guy, I don't need a lot," he says. "I'm very grateful for what I do have."
So far, his publicity stunt seems to be working. The story has travelled around the world, and news helicopters have at times been hovering above the slide, trying to get shots of him.
As of yet, no one has stepped forward to rescue Dumont from his $1.5 million debt.
In our full interview, Dumont answers the pressing question of how he relieves himself while camped out. He also tells Carol how long he's planning to stay attached to his slide.
