It's the worst refugee crisis since the Second World War. Thousands of desperate people risking their lives to reach Europe in a quest to find asylum. They encountered generosity as well as abuse on their journey across the continent. The CBC's Nahlah Ayed has seen it first hand.

She reported from cornfields and train stations and witnessed their struggle up close.

This is Nahlah's Back Story.
