Kris Wu is one of China's biggest stars and he's now in the midst of a #MeToo firestorm after allegations of predatory sexual behaviour with an underage girl made headlines. In a span of just a few days, more than a dozen brands have cut ties with the Chinese-Canadian singer, actor and model. The scandal has also signalled a swift and unexpected resurgence of China's #MeToo movement. We spoke with Quartz tech reporter Jane Li on the facts and the fallout, and Chinese Human Rights Watch researcher Yaqiu Wang on the state of the movement in a country with a record of censoring independent thought.
