On the shores of Guantánamo Bay, Cuba, stands a U.S. military detention camp. Its history reflects a pretty clear notion: all's fair in fear and war.

In the early days of the war on terror, the US captured thousands of alleged "enemy combatants" overseas, but they needed somewhere to hold and interrogate them without worrying about any official rules (like those pesky Geneva Conventions).

Guantánamo Bay was the perfect solution. But not long after it opened, the truth of its makeshift justice system started coming to light.

In the latest season of the groundbreaking podcast Serial, Sarah Koenig and Dana Chivvis bring us directly into Guantánamo Bay through stories from the ordinary people who lived it. Leah speaks with Sarah and Dana about those stories, the future of Guantánamo Bay, and Serial's podcasting legacy.

Also, you might not know that the most popular version of the song "Tainted Love" is actually a cover. The original version was recorded by a woman named Gloria Jones, all the way back in 1964. But what's the story behind the original recording? Novena Carmel and Michael Barnes from Lost Notes join us to chat about forgotten music histories.

All that and more, this week on Podcast Playlist

Serial: "Serial returns with a history of Guantánamo told by people who lived through key moments in Guantánamo's evolution, who know things the rest of us don't about what it's like to be caught inside an improvised justice system."

Lost Notes: "Long before "Tainted Love" was an '80s anthem, it was a 1965 B-side by LA's Gloria Jones. We trace the song's journey from a warehouse floor to the annals of pop history."

Broomgate: "Over the course of six episodes, semi-professional curler and fully professional comedian John Cullen (Blocked Party) is exposing the unbelievable, never-before-told scandal that rocked the sport of curling. Yes, curling."

White Devil: "Shootings are not unusual in Belize. Shootings of cops are. When a wealthy woman – married into one of the most powerful families in Belize – is found on a pier late at night, next to a body, it becomes the country's biggest news story in a generation."
