Within the DC Comics universe, The Joker has always been one of the creepiest characters — and now he's at the heart of his very own film.

Joker stars Joaquin Phoenix in the iconic role, and the film, which is scheduled to hit theatres October 4, also includes appearances by Robert De Niro, Zazie Beetz, Brian Tyree Henry, Bill Camp, Marc Maron and many others.

In it, the Joker is a failed stand-up comic who turns to a life of crime, and achieves legend status in the most terrifying ways.

On Twitter, many are debating whether Phoenix can pull off the role, especially given it's the first-ever film to feature the Joker as the central character. (Leonardo Di Caprio was also reportedly considered.)

Judging by the new trailer, it's going to be very, very creepy. "I used to think that my life was a tragedy," says Phoenix's character. "But now I realize it's a comedy."
