Norm Macdonald, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Adam Sandler and more express their condolences and share stories
As news broke that actor Burt Reynolds had died at age 82 from a heart attack, celebrities and friends took to Twitter to express their condolences and share stories.
Burt Reynolds was one of my heroes. He was a trailblazer. He showed the way to transition from being an athlete to being the highest paid actor, and he always inspired me. He also had a great sense of humor - check out his Tonight Show clips. My thoughts are with his family.

Very sad to hearing about the passing of Burt Reynolds. He was a great actor, a philanthropist and a pioneer of the cool mustache. Thank you, Burt. You will be missed. pic.twitter.com/nuuFWMSnJg

Reynolds was especially noted for his comedic chops in films, such as Cannonball Run and Smokey and the Bandit, and his smile was iconic (someone even looped it for 10 hours straight for your enjoyment). Norm Macdonald famously played this up in his portrayal of Reynolds on the longstanding Celebrity Jeopardy skit, in which his character always gave host Alex Trebek a difficult time (in an oversized cowboy hat no less)
Big Burt is up in heaven slapping around little Bert. #onefewerB*rt inthispooroldworld

As THE movie star of my childhood, the Bandit stole our hearts for decades. I always loved how Burt Reynolds worked with his friends as often as he could and then showcased the fun of movie-making in the end credits of his flicks. He was true American icon. Hate to see him go... https://t.co/jaMZjJA4e8

Burt Reynolds. True legend. Our hero. Funny as hell and a for-real badass. So many great movies. So many great stories. Such a great Dad. Will be missed by all. Deepest condolences to his family.

During the '70s, he was a top box office draw and Hollywood heartthrob, famously appearing nude on a bearskin rug in a 1972 issue of Cosmo magazine.
Burt Reynolds was the subject of the first sex-positive attempt to do "porn... for women!" as the centerfold of Cosmo, and, well.

RIP, Burt and/or the age in which sensuality was conveyed by a man with approximately 25 pounds of body hair pic.twitter.com/HSXIa1LLQw

But he could also hold his own in more dramatic roles, from Deliverance to Boogie Nights, and always exuded ease and charm on screen. He was also set to appear in Quentin Tarantino's upcoming Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
R.I.P. Burt Reynolds, underrated as a dramatic actor (Deliverance), underrated as a director (Sharkey's Machine), but also a rare movie star that seemed to be just having an absolute ball onscreen. Nobody broke frame with a bigger gleam in his eye. "Just watch ol' Bandit run." pic.twitter.com/L4NlRyqahb

Reynolds had a striking resemblance to a young Marlon Brando, but in his early years had trouble retaining work — something he had in common with Clint Eastwood.
"We both got fired on the same day at Universal," he said in an interview last year. Why? "Just from being bad actors. And they were right," he said.
Burt Reynolds & Clint Eastwood were fired from GUNSMOKE & RAWHIDE at the same time. Burt was told he couldn't act and Clint his neck was too skinny. In the parking lot, Burt said to Clint, "I dunno what you're gonna do, but I'm gonna take acting lessons." #RIPBurtReynolds

Whatever he did after being let go from Gunsmoke, it worked, and Reynolds went on to make almost 200 films over the course of five decades, always with his trademark sense of humour, whether onscreen or off.
Burt I can not stop my tears right now. You were one of the greatest guys I ever worked with, u had my back. I am grateful we got some time together last year & laugh about the old days of B.L. Stryker. I will always miss you. Get some rest friend I love ya so much. #BurtReynolds pic.twitter.com/QhHWJiediT

I finally got to work with one of my heroes in 2006. #BurtReynolds led a really fun cast in Spokane and we laughed all day, every day he was on the set. A wry humor and a warm heart defined this wonderful man. He will be sorely missed. #RIPBurtReynolds pic.twitter.com/6ShGb2w2a6

I met Burt Reynolds once in a video store in the 90s before he did “Boogie Nights.” He was by himself and no one seemed to notice him. I said, “I just want to thank you for many hours of entertainment.” He smiled so big and shook my hand and said, “You made my day. Thank you.”
