Kae Sun's music is the sound of his search for home

Kae Sun talks about his new record Whoever Comes Knocking and performs a few songs, recorded live in the q studio.

We talk about the idea of home all the time, but the word "home" can be hard to define. Sometimes it means a real, physical place, like the town you grew up in, but home can also be a feeling, like when you feel at ease in a group of friends. In fact, some people can feel at home anywhere, as long as they're doing something they love.

Kae Sun is the stage name of Kwaku Darko-Mensah, a Ghanaian-born Canadian singer-songwriter and artist. Darko-Mensah has been exploring his own definition of "home" for a while now. He left Ghana at age 17 and settled in Hamilton, Ont., where he first found an audience for his music. His new album, Whoever Comes Knocking was written and recorded in a number of different places including Toronto, New York, Munich, Berlin and Montreal. It's one of those records that critics don't know how to talk about because there are many different influences, genres and scenes at play.

Kae Sun recently dropped by the q studio to chat with Tom Power about what homes means to him and perform a few songs off his new record. Watch the full interview above.
