Before Hamilton became the Broadway sensation it is today, there was another musical that forged history with contemporary music to explore American politics.

Michael Friedman wrote the music and lyrics for Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, and now he's venturing into the political field once more by putting song to the stories of U.S. primary voters. When he started this project, Friedman was worried that "things would wrap-up and become kind of dull" as he says is usually typical of primary season — fortunately for him, this year's primaries are anything but typical.

Things have, as everyone knows, gotten completely, unexpectedly out of control on all sides ... and I think that Americans are confused, and upset, and not entirely sure what to do about that.

If you're wondering how Friedman gets people to open up for the purpose of making their experience musical, he says skepticism passes once they've sat down for a coffee, then they can't stop talking.

"In this political process, people feel unheard so I think a moment to be able to actually tell your individual story ... I think that's an unusual experience for a lot of people."
