Meet Jack Garratt — the U.K.'s rising one-man musical machine

He sounds like a whole band on his own. Jack Garratt's do-it-yourself approach stands out in the age of mass-produced pop music.

Left hand on keyboard, right hand beating drum, guitar strapped over his hip — Jack Garratt delivers smooth vocals into the microphone. Eyes closed, you might mistake the rising U.K. artist for an entire band..

Garratt is rivaling the likes of Adele on the U.K. charts, winning over fans and critics with his modern electronic spin on soulful pop.

Today the 24 year old joins guest host Piya Chattopadhyay to discuss Phase, a debut album he wrote, recorded, and produced nearly all on his own. His do-it-yourself ethic and taste for "respectable" pop music stands out in the age of formulaic chart toppers.

"I'm ultimately a perfectionist who doesn't believe in perfection," says the singer-songwriter.

"I gave everything I had to this record."

"James Blake meets Ed Sheeran." Jack Garratt is rivaling the likes of Adele on the U.K. charts, winning over fans and critics alike. (jackgarratt.com)
