Punk rocker Laura Jane Grace burns birth certificate in trans rights protest

Despite her gender identity, lawmakers in North Carolina would have Laura Jane Grace use the men's washroom. Like all trans people in the state, the Against Me! frontwoman's options are to use the facility that corresponds with the sex on her birth certificate, seek out unisex washrooms, or break the law. 

Last night, during a live performance in Durham, Grace burned her birth certificate in protest.  

"What better way to get a fire going?" says Grace, who waved the blazing document before a cheering crowd. "I came to North Carolina to be reborn." 

The veteran punk rocker joins q guest host Gill Deacon to discuss her stand against the controversial Public Facilities Privacy and Security Act, better known as HB2, and and why she chose to mount a "celebration of defiance" instead of steering clear of North Carolina.

Other artists — including Pearl Jam, Bruce Springsteen, Ani DiFranco, Nick Jonas and Ringo Starr — have shown opposition to the law by cancelling concerts in the state.
