Filmmaker Rebecca Miller amuses with adultery in Maggie's Plan

Director Rebecca Miller's new film, Maggie's Plan, may involve a love triangle, but not the kind you'd expect. What Miller refers to as the "emotional geometry" of the story is, in fact, Maggie's plan.

When Maggie no longer wants to be with her husband, she decides the best way out is to set him up with another woman — his ex-wife.   

While the issues of adultery and loneliness that this film tackles could have made it a tense drama, Maggie's Plan is a comedy with absurd moments that Miller says reflect our reality, where one moment is silly and the next serious. It's also a story that highlights the modern logistics of coupling, families and the sheer organization required to maintain them.

"It's a confusing and exhilarating time," Miller tells Shad, "and I think that I just wanted to capture this moment, like a little selfie."
