Is the future of software bots a chatty pal in the same vein as the film Her

q's technology correspondent Clive Thompson thinks so. While we're used to simple question and answer bots like Siri or Amazon's Alexa, there is software like China's Xiaoice, which is wildly popular for its ability to casually converse with humans. 

As we continue to anthropomorphize our gadgets, Thompson argues that the next step is giving bots those human-like traits that will allow technology to fully insert itself into our lives.
