The poor man's Taken: Richie Mehta on abduction drama, Siddharth
Have you seen the thriller Taken, starring Liam Neesam? Okay. Imagine that the desperate father searching for his missing child is not a wealthy, well-connected ex-CIA agent but an illiterate labourer in Delhi.
That's how Mississauga director Richie Mehta pitched his abduction drama Siddarth, a film about the search for a kidnapped child labourer that recently had its Canadian release.
Today Mehta joins guest host Rachel Giese to discuss his portrait of parents looking for their son without money, internet access, or even a photograph of their son. The filmmaker shares the real story that inspired his film, and why he wanted to paint a nuanced portrait of a universally-recognized emergency.
