Documentary attempts to uncover the mystery of Michael de Bourcier
In 2002, a man named Michael de Bourcier was found dead in his Toronto apartment from an apparent heart attack.
That was strange enough, given that he was in his 30s. Even stranger was the fact that he had pre-paid for his funeral, and had false IDs.
Ontario Provincial Police discovered the man's real name was James Scott Walton. He had assumed the name of Michael De Bourcier – a four-year-old boy who had died in a car crash in British Columbia – before he moved to Toronto in 2000.
So who, really, was Michael De Bourcier?
His work buddy Dylan Reibling wanted to find out. He tells tells the story of his search tomorrow night on CBC Television in a documentary called Looking for Mike. The doc raises complicated questions about the real emotions, and complicated ethics of prying into someone's past.
Looking for Mike airs Thursday, March 3 at 9 p.m. on CBC Television.
