How Fast Romantics' experiences in the U.S. shaped their new album

Canadian band Fast Romantics explain how the love songs on their new album, American Love, were changed and inspired by their time touring in the U.S.

Have you ever fallen in love while the world around you was crumbling?

That's the situation that Fast Romantics lead singer and songwriter Matthew Angus found himself in when he began work on the band's new album, American Love. What started off as regular love songs became, as Angus put it, "tinged with what it feels like to be a Canadian perceiving America right now." Needless to say, Donald Trump's presidency has played a big part in that. "We're just a little worried about what's going on right now," Angus adds.

The results of Angus's songwriting is a revelation of a record, though; an album that is sure to bump the band from Toronto indie darlings to one of the premiere headlining Canadian acts of 2017. Today, the band stops by the q studios to perform songs from American Love and to discuss the band's transformation over the past few years.

American Love comes out on April 28.
