Jill Keiley is proud of the stories we have here in Canada.

"It's good to look back at what the narrative of Canada is," she argues. "We have excellent stories [...] We don't have to get our stories from America or Britain."

Now she's helping bring a particularly important story to the stage. Keiley, the Artistic Director of English Theatre at Canada's National Arts Centre, is directing The Colony of Unrequited Dreams. It tells the story of Newfoundland's entry into Confederation in 1949, and Joey Smallwood, the man who led that effort.

Keiley joined host Tom Power today to discuss the facts and fiction in the play, which was adapted from a Wayne Johnston book.

The Colony of Unrequited Dreams is on now, until Feb. 11, at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa. For more information, check out their website.
