With Canada Reads coming up soon — kicking off on March 27 over at CBC Books — Measha Brueggergosman has some catching up to do.

The soprano singer has stepped in at the last minute for actress Tamara Taylor, who had to bow out of the competition early. But, Brueggergosman is ready and prepared, and perhaps seeking a little vengeance for her showing at 2004's Canada Reads where her book, Alice Munro's The Love of a Good Woman, was eliminated in the first round.

This time around, she is defending Madeline Ashby's sci-fi novel, Company Town, a book that Brueggergosman says, "takes us through the gamut of what it means to be Canadian, and not only in the futuristic sense."

Hear more about Brueggergosman's book pick and why she thinks it's a top contender for this year's prize on today's show.
