How Bonobo created Migration in the transient times on the road
Depending on the artist, the times between cities on tour can be the most monotonous or the most productive. For Bonobo's Simon Green, it was the latter.
While Green was on the road — and technically homeless because he had stopped paying rent for his New York City apartment — ideas for his latest album, Migration, began to sprout.
"During that time, the bones of this record were constructed," he reveals. "I respond to creativity well when I'm outside and reacting to experiences, not inside a studio."
The results are beautifully layered and orchestrated numbers that are not to be confused with the trendy dance genre of EDM. "The only thing in common is the similar techniques used to create the music," Green clarifies.
