Greg Graffin's musical universe makes space for country and punk

Bad Religion frontman Greg Graffin discusses his latest solo album, Millport, which may be sonically miles apart from his band's sounds but, to him, they share the same universe.

Greg Graffin doesn't think country and punk are that far apart.

To him, his latest solo album, Millport (out March 10), doesn't sound anything like his band Bad Religion, but they do occupy the same universe. In fact, he sees a kinship between the two.

"When I thought of being a singer from a very young age, I always wanted the melody to be strong but the harmony was almost as important," Graffin remembers. "I thought the speakers were completely filled by harmony and in punk rock, I guess I would say there was a lot of space to be filled."

Listen as Graffin talks to host Tom Power about his musical influences growing up, what Millport is a metaphor for, and why Bad Religion is not a "heritage band."
