'You're never finished': composer Mychael Danna's quest to nail a film score
Composer Mychael Danna has scored several Hollywood movies and is now revisiting the music of his award-winning compositions for the movie Life of Pi for a special Toronto Symphony Orchestra performance.
Canadian composer Mychael Danna has scored dozens of Hollywood films — Little Miss Sunshine, Moneyball, The Good Dinosaur, Capote, The Sweet Hereafter, Girl Interrupted, to name a few — and earned an Oscar for best original score in 2013 for Life of Pi.
Danna has reworked the Life of Pi score into an orchestral suite and tonight, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra will perform its world premiere. Danna talks to Tom Power about why his Life of Pi music still captures the imagination, and what it takes to score some of the biggest films in Hollywood.
