Meghan Patrick on speaking up, her latest album and her award nominations
When an audience member shouted a demeaning and lewd phrase at Canadian country music star, Meghan Patrick this summer rather than ignore him, Meghan used it to start a conversation about the harassment she and other performers face.
Patrick speaks with q host Tom Power about why it's important for her to speak up for women in the music industry. She explained, "it made me realize that mentality and that other aspect of what I do where you become sort of objectified and dehumanized when you reach a certain level of notoriety and you have a public platform." The country music star wants performers to understand the importance of standing up for themselves.
Patrick is nominated for three Canadian Country Music Association Awards: Female Artist of the Year, Single of the Year and Video of the Year.
She performed two new songs from her upcoming album Wild as Me in the q studio.
Meghan Patrick's new album Wild as Me is out Friday, September 6th.
