The Rural Alberta Advantage's Nils Edenloff on the music that reminds him of Fort McMurray

The Rural Alberta Advantage frontman Nils Edenloff shares a playlist of songs that remind him of his hometown of Fort McMurray, Alta.
(Vanessa Heins)

Before the devestation of last year's wildfires, Fort McMurray, Alta. was a magnet for young workers. The community drew people from all over, usually for work in the oil industry. Fort McMurray was, and still is, synonymous with hope —hope for good work and hope for a better life.

Nils Edenloff fronts the band, the Rural Alberta Advantage, and hope brought his family to Fort McMurray when he was in grade school. But many years, he wasn't sure he wanted to be there. In today's q Block Party, Edenloff takes us on a musical tour of a place he now loves.

Below are his song selections:

The Nylons, 'The Lions Sleeps Tonight'

The Smalls, 'Payload'

The Tragically Hip, 'Grace, Too'

Radiohead, 'Lucky'
