Ian Tyson looks back at the start of his songwriting career, as one half of musical duo Ian & Sylvia

Ian Tyson will be among the newest inductees in the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame, come September 5th. He and former partner Sylvia Tyson are each being inducted on the eve of the release of a brand-new music collection, called Ian and Sylvia: The Lost Tapes.

Sixty years ago, something pretty magical happened in Toronto. Ian Tyson met Sylvia Fricker and they sang together for the first time. They became pioneers in the '60s folk music scene together as Ian and Sylvia. 

Ian Tyson joins q host Tom Power from a studio in Calgary for a special look back at his early career and reflects on the first time he and Sylvia Tyson performed together.

Ian and Sylvia parted ways in the mid-1970s and they both went on to have successful solo careers. 

Now, a collection of music the duo recorded live back in the early seventies has emerged and is being released on Friday, Sept. 6. The collection is called Ian and Sylvia: The Lost Tapes. 

The duo are both being inducted into the Canadian Songwriters Hall of Fame in Calgary this Thursday, Sept. 5. 

Ian Tyson joins q host Tom Power and reflects through some of the "lost" recordings and what it was like to perform with Sylvia.
