Woman World: How Aminder Dhaliwal's hit web comic helped her find her voice
Originally published on September 12, 2018
Aminder Dhaliwal is a Canadian cartoonist and animator with an enviable resumé. She's worked for Nickelodeon, the Cartoon Network and Disney, but about a year ago she had a crisis of confidence. Wondering if she was still good at her job, Dhaliwal decided to take some time to refocus.
Just for the fun of it, she created an online comic called Woman World. It takes you to a planet where men are extinct and women are trying to adapt to this new reality. Woman World was just a cheeky side project for Dhaliwal, until it became really popular and earned her a huge online following. She released it as a graphic novel, and now, that book is up for an Ignatz Award.
Dhaliwal joined q guest host Ali Hassan from a studio in Burbank, Calif. to tell us what it's like to have a playful passion project turn into a professional venture.
