The Cosmic Cocktail

A new book delves into the mystery of the Dark Matter.

In her new book The Cosmic Cocktail, astrophysicist and leading dark-matter researcher Dr. Katherine Freese, explores the work that has led us to the cusp of understanding the mysterious dark matter.  Thanks to discoveries dating back 80 years, we know that the universe consists of much more matter than we can see with telescopes.  Research since then has revealed that this matter is in fact not just invisible, but largely undetectable as it interacts with "normal" matter so weakly. But work by Dr. Freese and others has inspired experiments that may be starting to capture glimpses of new fundamental particles that represent 80% of the matter in the universe.
