Inside 'biology Twitter' with #BestCarcass
Death and decay are part of life. A hashtag lets you follow along.
The idea of #BestCarcass started with biologists working in African countries, sharing pictures of carnivore carcasses in various states of decay. It was a bit of back and forth fun between biologists to see who could capture unusual, but also informative, images.
But then, the hashtag was set loose.
What's behind it? According to PhD student, Anne Hilborn, the images depict a side of life in the wild that most of us wouldn't otherwise see.
Hilborn is a biologist studying cheetah hunting behaviour on The Serengeti, in Tanzania. She reveals her own interest in these photographs, and what the rest of us can learn from them.
