The city where it's against the law to be poor (25 sec):  Toronto's "Safe Streets Act" makes it illegal to panhandle. It costs a million dollars a year to enforce and fines are never paid.

Talking to Terrorists (4:53):  If we want an end to the fear gripping countries that are besieged by the threat of terror, we are going to have to negotiate with terrorists, no matter how irrational or bloodthirsty they might be. That's according to Jonathan Powell, former chief of staff to Tony Blair, chief British negotiator on Northern Ireland from 1997 to 2007, and author of Talking To Terrorists: How to End Armed Conflicts.

Socks for the Homeless (37:24):  A listener responded to our documentary about the importance of warm, clean socks to people living on the street. She knit 43 pairs of beautiful woollen socks to donate. This is her story and a rebroadcast of  Frank Faulk's documentary about socks for the homeless, which inspired this recent industrious act of generosity.

NOTE: Apologies for this truncated podcast. Unfortunately, we cannot include the interview about Beethoven's Ninth Symphony because it contains music and we do not have rights for this purpose. Listeners in Canada may stream it through the post on this webpage.
