A heartfelt farewell from Canada's Chief Justice

The Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Canada has presided over her last case.

The Right Honourable Beverley McLachlin will officially retire from the court on December 15th.

Beverley McLachlin was raised on a farm near Pincher Creek, Alberta. She was the first woman to preside over Canada's highest court. 

She is the longest serving Chief Justice in Canada's history, through four prime ministers and four governors-general.

She has earned universal respect for consistently handing down non-partisan, learned, egalitarian decisions.

Earlier this week, Chief Justice McLachlin heard arguments in a case about tariff barriers between Canadian provinces.
