When Political Ads Backfire: (00:00:08)

Election day is more than three months away, but the parties are already in attack mode. We'll take a look at negative campaign advertising. When is it effective? How easily can it backfire? And how far is too far? A conversation with Marie Della Mattia, President and CEO of The Now Group, an advertising agency based in Vancouver; and Bill Walker, a former journalist, now a public relations and communications consultant.

Doc - The right thing to do: (00:30:49) When one of his employees dies suddenly, Ross McLeod learns there are no friends or family members to make funeral arrangements. He steps up, to do the right thing. Karin Wells brings us this story.

Monumental arguments about how to remember: (00:46:58) Two proposed Canadian memorials have sparked monumental debates this year: the massive Memorial to the Victims of Communism, slated to be built next to the Supreme Court in Ottawa; and the eight-storey high Mother Canada statue planned for the Cape Breton shoreline. Turns out we are not alone in squabbling over how we decide to honour the past. We speak with James Young, one of the world's most respected experts on monuments and the Director of the Institute for Holocaust, Genocide, and Memory Studies at the University of Massachusetts Amherst; and Juliet Johnson who teaches political science at McGill University and is co-founder of The Post-Communist Monuments Project.

Mail on Dylan and dope: (01:12:05) Listener response to last week's conversation about the 50th anniversary of Bob Dylan going electric at the Newport Folk Festival. We also have letters about our special report on medical marijuana.

Doc - In praise of the theremin: (01:12:05) A delightful documentary by Lindsay Michael about this eerie musical instrument. It's called "Out of Thin Air."
