Ban indoor smoking in condos and apartments
Carly Weeks says soon it should seem as antiquated an idea for people to be able to light up inside their condos and apartments as it was for people to smoke in offices or restaurants. The Globe and Mail health reporter says some brave municipality should take the lead and ban it.
She says that non-smokers shouldn't have to put up with the consequences of their neighbours' bad habits.
"You want to have some people over and you have that cigarette stench that's just really hard to get out of the air."
And Weeks says smokers are leaving more than just a bad odour in the air. She says the chemicals in the smoke put their neighbour's health at risk.
We're at the stage now where we know the dangers of second hand smoke and people should be free to have the choice to not be around that- Globe and Mail health reporter Carly Weeks
"We're at the stage now where we know the dangers of second hand smoke and people should be free to have the choice to not be around that."
Weeks acknowledges that it could be a tough fight to get such a by-law passed, but she believes history will be kind to the government brave enough to take it on.
