On our last program we had a conversation about sustainable energy. The Canadian Nuclear Association recently commissioned a study that makes the case for nuclear over wind power. We received a lot of feedback on that conversation - with almost equal support for wind and nuclear.

But there was something that many of our listeners thought was missing from that conversation.

One of those listeners was Patrick Hayes, who wrote to say: "While talking about the environmental impacts of Nuclear Power you forgot to mention it's single biggest environmental impact: Nuclear Waste. Handling and long-term storage of nuclear waste is an unsolved problem, and while this problem remains unsolved it remains the single biggest environmental argument against expanding the nuclear industry."

Your comments got us thinking about the status of nuclear waste in Canada. And so we made some calls.
