Should cyclists have the run of the side walks?

Calgary is just the latest Canadian city to invest in separated bike lines. The idea is to encourage cyclists by making urban rides safer. But Brian Dexter says there's already safe infrastructure available to bikes: sidewalks. He says younger and older cyclists feel more at home on paths meant for pedestrian. He believes we should follow the lead of countries like Japan and stop fining people for riding on side walks.
