Graphic novelist Nina Bunjevac recalls how her father was blown up bringing terror to Toronto in 'Fatherland'

The year was 1977 and the terrorist cell was right here in Canada. Peter Bunjevac had plans to attack the Yugoslav consulate in Toronto, his bomb exploded early. Peter's daughter, Nina has now pieced together details of her father's life in a graphic novel called Fatherland.

The RCMP special services is now involved in an investigation into an explosion that killed three Toronto men on Monday. The Toronto police want to find out whether the RCMP knows anything about a possible connection between the men and any subversive groups. A Toronto newspaper reported today that the men were members of a Serbian terrorist group dedicated to the overthrow of Yugoslav president Josef Tito.CBC news report from September 1, 1977

Few Canadians will remember that moment in the history of Canadian terrorism, but it's an event that continues to haunt Nina Bunjevac.

The explosion was an apparent plot to destroy the Yugoslav consulate in Toronto. It resulted in the death of the plotters.

Nina Bunjevac's father, Peter, was one of the bombers killed that day. Now, 37 years later, NIna Bunjevac portrays her father's life and death in her new graphic novel, Fatherland. (Scroll down to see some pages from the book)
