Following the footsteps of humanity's ancestors: Paul Salopek
Following the footsteps of humanity's ancestors: Paul Salopek
If everything goes to plan, Paul Salopek is going to need a lot of shoes.
He plans to travel almost 34 thousand kilometers across three continents telling the stories of the people he meets along the way.
The path he'll follow is the presumed trail of the people who first marched out of Africa 60 thousand years ago. He calls it the Out of Eden Walk -- from Ethiopia, through Eurasia to the tip of South America. It's a seven-year long journey. And this is where the shoes come in -- he's walking all of it; about 30 million steps.
Paul Salopek is a two-time Pulitzer prize winning journalist and National Geographic Fellow and we reached him as he prepared for his journey.
Paul Salopek starts his epic journey next week. You can follow his progress at outofedenwalk.com
