Alexandra Jamieson: I'm not vegan anymore

Alexandra Jamieson, an advocate of a vegan diet has returned to eating meat for health reasons and now her former supporters are eating her alive.
She's been unfriended, ostracized and insulted online. After 13 years as a high profile Vegan, a chef, cookbook author and holistic health counselor Alexandra Jamieson made a very public confession ... she had begun eating eggs and meat. She wasn't Vegan anymore. Today we speak to Alexandra Jamieson on the politics of food.

Here is her blog post 'coming out' as a meat-eater.

Holistic Health Counsellor, Alexandra Jamieson

Nine years ago, our next guest rolled her eyes in a documentary that turned the question "you want fries with that?" into a moral crisis. Supersize Me saw filmmaker Morgan Spurlock eat nothing but food made under the Golden Arches for an entire month. His McDonald's diet - and the consequences of it -- repulsed many people, including his then girlfriend. Alexandra Jamieson urged Mr. Spurlock not to go too far, for the sake of his health.

Alexandra Jamieson and Morgan Spurlock are no longer together, but she made a name for herself as a holistic health counsellor, vegan chef and author. But earlier this year, she performed a very public cleanse. She lost friends, clients and fans.

On her website she posted a blog titled "I'm not vegan anymore". In it, she admitted to craving meat -- and ultimately giving in. It caused quite a stir in the so-called "vegan community" and in Alexandra's own life.

Alexandra Jamieson was in our New York studio today to talk about that, and why she left the vegan life behind.
