Robyn Bresnahan hosts Wednesday's edition of The Current (CBC)

Today on The Current:

There have been 728 opioid-related deaths in B.C. in the first half of 2020, while the province has recorded 189 deaths from COVID-19. We talk to B.C. Minister of Mental Health and Addictions Judy Darcy about the public health crisis, while Kathleen Radu — who lost her son Morgan Goodridge to an overdose last month — says she wants officials to tackle the opioid crisis with the same energy used to fight the virus.

Plus, our national affairs panellists Kady O'Malley and Marieke Walsh weigh in on the ethics investigation over the WE Charity contract, and what it means for the prime minister.

Then, baseball is back tomorrow, but with a ban on spitting. Historian Indy Neidell tells us how "logies" became such a big part of the game (even throughout the 1918 pandemic).

And all summer long The Current is airing some of the most critically-acclaimed CBC podcasts. We continue today with the finale of Uncover: Sharmini, about the unsolved 1999 homicide of a Toronto teen. Click here to find out more about each podcast, or skip ahead to hear more.
