Checking-In: Rohingya Muslims, Howard Sapers & MSF rescuing migrants at sea
Our Senior Producer Kathleen Goldhar joined Anna Maria in studio to share our listeners feedback in Checking-In.
Today's segment includes:
Persecution of Rohingya Muslims: Currently thousands of Rohingya refugees fleeing Burma by boat. Restrictive policies have exacerbated religious persecution of Rohingya Muslims for years. The government of Myanmar has been accused of facilitating a genocide. We speak with the Canadian Ambassador of Myanmar to address the government's role in the Rohingha refugee crisis.
Howard Sapers: Howard Sapers has been an outspoken prison ombudsman, advocating for better access to mental health care, more resources for prisoners upon their release, and action on the over representation of Aboriginal Canadians in our prisons. The Conservative government will not be renewing his appointment as Correctional Investigator of Canada.
Boat Migrant Rescue by MSF: We hear the dramatic stories from two MSF doctors at sea searing to rescue people from migrant boats floating in the Mediterranean, trying to make a new life for themselves.
We always love hearing from you.
