Checking-In on Being Jacqueline, Mike Duffy Trial, Mayweather & more

The Current's Friday host, Anthony Germain joins Anna Maria from St. John's, to help read through the listener feedback and check-in on some of the stories we've been following... including the trial of suspended-senator Mike Duffy and an update on Lab West, known as Mini Fort McMurray.

We always devote a segment of our Thursday program to you, our listeners to hear your response on stories we've been following. Our Friday host Anthony Germain joined Anna Maria to help go through your tweets, posts, updates and emails.

Today's segment includes:

Being Jacqueline: The story of a woman who, after almost 40 years of marriage, helps her husband transition to female.

Hands Up 4 Justice App: We speak with the creator of an app that helps people document police brutality.

Update on Lab West:  In January, we brought you a story about the Wabush mines closing in an area known as Lab West or Mini Fort McMurray. Today we hear from women, all janitors with nearly 30 years on the job each, who work for  the Iron Ore Company of Canada. They found out they are 4 of the 150 workers that will be laid of in June.

Mike Duffy Trial: Today is Day 21 of the trial of Mike Duffy. The suspended senator has pleaded not guilty to 31 charges of fraud, breach of trust and bribery related to expenses he claimed as a senator. Journalist Nicholas Köhler is covering the Duffy trial for Maclean's magazine and joined us to give us an update.

Floyd Mayweather: Some boxing fans found the "fight of the century" between Filipino world champ Manny Pacquiao versus Floyd Mayweather last week, difficult to stomach. Over a 12-year period, Floyd Mayweather has been arrested or cited for seven assaults, involving five different women.

As always we love to hear from our listeners. We go through all the feedback that comes to us. So get in touch.
