Is Alberta on the verge of a historic political shift? After more than four decades the reign of the Progressive Conservatives could come to an end next week. 

​For a time, it looked like Premier Jim Prentice had a clear path to victory. His party had just absorbed the leadership of its most serious rival - the Wildrose - the Alberta NDP had a new leader, and the Liberals were a distant dot in the rearview mirror.

Then came an unpopular budget and an early election call.

Now Jim Prentice is facing the very real possibility of seeing his political career and his party's dynasty crumble all at once.
