Why Alexandria Maillot feels connected to this 2013 nonfiction book about being curious about nature

Alexandria Maillot is a Vancouver-based actress and singer-songwriter known for her "swoon rock" approach to music. Her second album, Benevolence, was released in 2019.
Maillot stopped by The Next Chapter to discuss the book she recently read, Braiding Sweetgrass by American author Robin Wall Kimmerer.
"I gravitate toward books that are more self-reflective and based around nature. This book is about the author's experience growing up in the countryside of New York, being curious about nature and wanting to marry that interest with science.

"Wall Kimmerer became a biologist and studies botany and plant ecology. Braiding Sweetgrass is a really beautiful book that captures a lot of her youthful excitement. It also talks about her motherhood and the tendencies of motherhood and how that defines her relationship with nature.
"It puts life into perspective — and it just makes me feel a bit more grounded and appreciative for my surroundings."
