Amy Stuart on her thankless first job
Amy Stuart is the author of Still Mine, but before she was a published author, she had a pretty odd job.
The oddest job I ever had was the first job I ever had, which was a runner for the annual William Ashley Warehouse Sale. My job was to stand at the cash register, and every time they had an object with no price on it they would give it to me and I would have to sprint through the warehouse searching for the item and its price. And nine times out of 10 you would get back to the cash register and the person waiting would have left, because a long lineup would have formed in the meantime where they were obviously feeling anxious, and they would say "Just forget it, I'll leave without it." I got a lot of exercise and made very little money, but it taught me a lot about hard work.
Amy Stuart's comments have been edited and condensed.
