This Happened to Me is a new video series from CBC Radio that explores the turning points in our lives — the moments that changed everything.

Jennifer Yoon was 11 years old when she moved to Canada from South Korea with her family. In Korea, she was Yae Gi Yoon, and on the the plane ride from Incheon to Vancouver, her mother asked her to think about what she'd like her English name to be.

Her mother was leaning toward something biblical, but Jennifer had other ideas.

She first shared her story of a new life and a new name with The Doc Project. Below, you can watch Jennifer's story come to life thanks to animations by Ben Shannon.
