Martin 9-0, heads to curling semis
Canada's Kevin Martin has ended the round-robin at the Winter Olympics with a perfect record, but his opponent in Thursday's curling semifinal is still unclear.
Martin made an open draw for four points in the first end of the game against China's Hongchen Li before romping to a 10-3 blowout.
Canada, which had wrapped up first place a few days ago, ends with a 9-0 record.
"That game was important in the fact of keeping the percentages going and you could tell we didn't play overly aggressive today," Martin said. "We didn't want to get our numbers down."
Martin, from Edmonton, will now have to await the winner of a Wednesday playoff game for the last playoff spot between defending world champion David Murdoch of Britain and Niklas Edin of Sweden.
Both teams have 5-4 records.
Sweden edged Denmark 7-6, while Britain fell 9-5 to Thomas Ulsrud of Norway. Ulsrud has also clinched a semifinal berth.
The Canadian skip said it doesn't really matter who he faces.
"It's all about numbers and playing well and that's all we can worry about," Martin said. "In order to win this we have to beat anybody, so it doesn't make any difference."
Markus Eggler of Switzerland snagged a playoff spot by dumping France 6-2 and will take on Norway, which has a 7-2 record, in the other semifinal.
"It can't be better — we're really happy that we won our game, but obviously we are happy we're not playing Canada in the semifinal," chuckled Ralph Stoeckli, who throws fourth stones for Switzerland.
