A third Cuban baseball player has been reported missing from an international tournament in Edmonton, and all three are believed to have defected.

The unnamed player has disappeared in a similar fashion as pitcher Noel Argueilles and shortstop Jose Antonio Iglesias, who have not been seen since their game against Team Canada last Sunday.

Tournament chairman Ron Hayter said that it's not uncommon for players to defect at major international sporting events, adding that tournament organizers can't keep tabs on players or ensure they stay with their team.

Last week's disappearance of Argueilles and Iglesias, both 18, prompted an angry response from former Cuban leader Fidel Castro on Friday, calling Edmonton a 'dumping ground' for Cuban athletes in an online column.

Those comments prompted Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel to offer Castro a free trip to his city to see what a great place it is.
