Blue Jays further shake up front office
Lalonde named pro scout while Ducey, Basso, Dick Scott shown door
The Blue Jays' off-the-field makeover continued Friday with four promotions and three firings, including pro scout and former Toronto outfielder Rob Ducey
The team's scouting and player development departments have been overhauled, with the Jays naming Andrew Tinnish director of amateur scouting, Perry Minasian director of pro scouting and Jon Lalonde pro scout, while turfing Ducey.
The player development department will operate under the direction of Tony LaCava. Charlie Wilson was named director of minor-league operations while Doug Davis is the new minor-league co-ordinator. Dick Scott, the outgoing director of player development, and Mike Basso, manager of the AAA Las Vegas 51s, were both relieved of their duties.
The moves were the first since Alex Anthopoulos was promoted to general manger after J.P. Ricciardi was fired on Saturday. Scott was a close friend and a Ricciardi hire.
Tinnish, 33, joined the Blue Jays in 2001 after pitching for the Quebec Capitales of the Northern League. The Ottawa native ran the pro scouting department this season.
The 29-year-old Minasian came to Toronto this year as a major league scout. He previously spent seven seasons with the Texas Rangers.
Lalonde, 33, of Midland, Ont., joins the club's pro scouting staff after serving as the director of scouting since 2003.
Wilson, a 36-year-old Toronto native, has been with the Jays on a full-time basis since 1997. He has been the club's manager of minor-league operations the past six seasons.
Davis, 47, joined the Jays in 2006 as the manager of the AA New Hampshire Fisher Cats.
