Milwaukee Brewers second baseman Rickie Weeks underwent knee surgery on Monday, but he is expected to be fully recovered by spring training.

The procedure, performed by team physician Dr. William Raasch, involved the removal of part of the damaged meniscus cartilage in his left knee.

Weeks jammed the knee as he ran out a ground ball in Saturday's series-ending 6-2 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies in Game 3 of the National League Division Series.

The 26-year-old got tangled up with Phillies first baseman Ryan Howard on the play.

He went hitless in four playoff at-bats.

Weeks hit .234 with 14 home runs, 46 runs batted in, 89 runs scored and 19 stolen bases in 129 games this season, his fifth in the major leagues.

He is a lifetime .245 hitter with 51 HRs, 158 RBIs, 306 runs and 78 steals in 445 games since he broke into the majors with Milwaukee on Sept. 15, 2003.
